We are seeking an experienced Senior Staff Electrical Engineer who will play a pivotal role in developing advanced FPGA based camera solutions for our cutting-edge DNA sequencing instrument. This is an incredible opportunity for someone who is passionate about high performance image sensor applications in bioscience. We are looking for candidates with a solid background in high-speed digital interface to image sensors. Advanced experience with Xilinx or Altera FPGA Development is a must. This role will report to Director of Electrical Engineering and will be a San Diego based role.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Contribution to overall imaging system architecture and verification
  • Translate user needs into technical spec
  • Responsible for advanced FPGA development and qualification projects
  • Perform high speed digital circuit design
  • Create high throughput PCBA schematics and layout
  • Handle microcontroller programming and debugging
  • Lead Interdisciplinary troubleshooting and root cause analysis
  • Manage technical collaboration with key suppliers and ODMs
  • Drive design reviews and technical presentations
  • Generate detailed technical documents and work instructions
  • Work with supply chain and manufacturing on production transfer activities

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s engineering degree in electrical engineering, electronics, computer engineering or related technical disciplines
  • 10+ years of direct experience in developing and testing of relevant electronic products, covering subsystems:
    1. High speed FPGA interface to image sensor
    2. Xilinx serial transceiver
    3. Xilinx Aurora link, USB, SPI, I2C and CAN bus
    4. High throughput digital system PCBA and cable harness
    5. Embedded controller system
    6. A/D and D/A converter
  • Advanced experience in FPGA solution architecture, coding and qualification
  • Experienced in firmware coding and debugging with C (required) / Python (preferred)
  • Demonstrated collaboration skills in order to drive good electrical, FW, and systems design practices
  • Experienced in technical project team lead role (preferred)
  • Ability to work in a fast paced, interdisciplinary environment and quickly adjust to rapidly evolving technology and priorities
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, capable of clearly explaining technical issues, ideas, and project status to peers and management

Physical Requirements:

  • Moves lab equipment weighing up to 20 pounds in lab environment

Travel: 

  • Up to 10% domestically or as needed

Job Type:

  • Exempt/Full-time

Base Compensation Pay Range:

  • $145,000 - $189,000


In addition to base compensation noted above, you will be eligible for stock options, discretionary annual bonus, no cost health insurance plans, 401k with company match, and flexible paid time off.
