The fluidics group is seeking a Senior Fluidics Engineer to assist in engineering development. Our team develops novel fluidics consumables, instrumentation, and other core capabilities that are key components of the technology portfolio at Element Biosciences. We are a highly cross-functional organization, and to be successful in this role, one must (1) have a strong fluidics engineering background, (2) be self-driven and motivated to help build innovative products, and (3) work effectively as part of a team.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

  • Responsibile for fluidic development of instrument modules and their interfaces with consumables
  • Conduct analysis of fluidic flow and impedances while characterizing the fluidic system
  • Determine volume flow rates, dead volumes, budgets and waste, etc. and optimization strategies for transfer in the small volume (mL) and (uL) range
  • Contribute to the overall development of system platform and prototypes through testing & experimentation, hardware selection and software development
  • Contribute to integration of automatic fluidic controls, breadboard test fixtures, prototype, and system testing and troubleshooting
  • Conduct testing and performing of experiments to generate high quality data to inform data-driven decisions
  • Foster positive collaborations with vendors, instrumentation & consumable engineering groups, and other internal groups to achieve their individual and team goals  
  • Contribute to fluidic requirements, engineering documentation, reports, and their execution 

Education and Experience

  • B.S degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field with 6+ years of experience in the life science industry such as HPLC, flow cytometry, and other forms of bioinstrumentation
  • M.S. degree in Engineering is a plus
  • Proven track record of working on teams that have taken products from concept to market
  • Experience with internal and outsourced product development projects
  • Experience with good engineering practices, tools, and processes, including DFM, DFMEA, Six Sigma, and the use of statistical tools such as JMP
  • Experience working with instrumentation, fluid handling and pneumatic systems is a plus

  • Analytical and systematic approach to design and testing, with an attention to detail
  • Proficient in SolidWorks
  • Rapid prototyping and fabrication skills desirable
  • Excellent Communication and interpersonal skills

  • Able to work independently and in a cross-functional team environment
