Element Biosciences is looking for a passionate and driven Research Associate to join our Genomic Applications Group. The RA will work directly with a senior scientists in the development and optimization of assays for Element Biosciences’ NGS technologies, specifically in areas of QC of library prep methods. Ideal candidates will have hands-on lab experience in NGS library preparation and related genomic assays. This position requires strong organization and communication skills with a capacity to work independently as well as in collaboration with other team members and across departments. Applicants must display a can-do attitude, and have demonstrated success working in a fast-paced environment with varied responsibilities and rapidly changing priorities. Expect to be part of a highly energetic and collaborative team and to participate in team meetings by presenting work and providing input to other team members.   ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:   ·       Follow detailed protocols. ·       Maintain lab notebooks and establish and update databases. ·       Summarize data in clear and concise write ups and presentations. ·       Maintain timelines while balancing multiple activities at once. ·       Maintain inventory of commonly used lab consumables and samples. ·       Perform routine maintenance on commonly used lab equipment.   REQUIRED SKILLS/ ABILITIES: ·       Have a baseline understanding of current NGS library prep and sequencing technologies. ·       Knowledge of DNA and RNA handling and quantitation methods. ·       Quantitative PCR reactions set-up and analysis. ·       Comfortable learning basic operation of complex instrumentation. ·       Work and time management. ·       Excellent attention to details. ·       Preparation of commonly used lab buffers.   PREFEERED SKILLS: ·       Statistical analysis of large data sets. ·       Exceptional collaboration and communication skills. ·       Writing SOPs ·       Experimental design     EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: ·       B.S. in biology or chemistry with 0-3 years of industry experience.
