Laboratory Assistant - Part time
Element Biosciences is a multi-disciplinary startup focused on innovating genetic analysis tools for the research and clinical markets. The Company's technology will broaden the end user experience through improved data quality and simplified workflows to benefit discoveries and diagnosis in healthcare. We seek a service-focused Laboratory Assistant to assist with lab operations at our San Diego facilities. This position works closely with the Laboratory Manager, R&D, Engineering teams, and Facilities Manager to bring organization and efficiency to our laboratory operations. This is a great opportunity for a current student or recent graduate who may be interested in growing their laboratory skills or has an interest in laboratory management with an exciting startup company. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES: · Ensure a safe, organized, and clean laboratory space · Maintain inventory of lab supplies including stocking and ordering · Coordinate service calls, preventive maintenance, and calibrations for equipment · Perform routine cleaning and daily preparation of various lab equipment · Maintain chemical inventory and SDS (safety data sheets), update as needed · Assist with equipment inventory and fixed asset tracking · Work with outside service providers for the proper and timely disposal of various waste profiles · Shipping and receiving of lab related materials including deliveries, receipt and reconciliation · Perform administrative duties in support of laboratory operation · Initial point of contact for vendors and service providers · Prepare reagents/buffers/solutions as needed · Organizes equipment, instrument spare parts, tooling, and electronic items · Other duties as assigned REQUIRED SKILLS/ABILITIES: · Team player, eager to learn about working in a laboratory · Ability to multitask and be organized in fast paced environment · Strong communication and interpersonal skills · Must be able to follow instructions and maintain a safe working environment · Must be able to use a computer with basic skills in Microsoft Office Suite programs EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: · High School Diploma · (1) one year of laboratory experience, or (1) one year of relevant college-level course level work in chemistry, biochemistry, biology, bioengineering preferred (an equivalent combination of experience and education may be considered) PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: · Must be able to lift 30 pounds TRAVEL: Negligible
