John R. Stuelpnagel, DVM, MBA
John has served as Chairman of the Board of Directors for Element Biosciences since September 2017. He’s also Chairman of 10x Genomics, Inscripta, and Fabric Genomics, respectively, and a member of the board for Encoded Therapeutics.
John co-founded and was Executive Chairman of Ariosa Diagnostics from 2010 to 2015 when the company was acquired by Roche. He was also Chairman of Sequenta from 2010 to 2015 when that company was merged with Adaptive Biotechnologies where John continued as a member of the board until 2017.
Previously, John co-founded Illumina in 1998, served as the company’s first CEO and later as COO, and was instrumental in making Illumina one of the most successful life science companies. Prior to Illumina, John was a venture capitalist at CW Group. John holds a Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine and a Bachelor’s in Biochemistry from the University of California, Davis, as well as an MBA from the University of California, Los Angeles.
